What tile is recommended for borders to be used with this product?

How many tiles I need for 315sf

Asked by: Sammyj
Each ceiling tile covers 4 sq ft so you would need at least 79 ceiling tiles for 315 sq ft. Please keep in mind the following: 1) the Avalon tile can only be installed as a full 2x2 tile because of its strong 3-dimensional profile. Since most rooms don't lay out to a perfect 2x2 grid, you'll need to select one of our low profile designs for use as a border tile for those areas that will require cutting the tile. 2) You will most likely need to purchase more than 79 tiles because there is always some waste when you are cutting tiles down from their full size. You can use the Ceilume Ceiling Tile calculator to calculate how many tiles you'll need AND select a border tile. The calculator will show you a picture of what your finished ceiling will look like and how many of each tiles you'd need for your project. You can use this link to get to the calculator: https://www.ceilume.com/calculator/2x2/white/avalon/

If I have 88 sq ft to cover how many tiles do I need, please?

Asked by: Ant Eun
Each 2x2 ceiling tile covers 4 sq ft. For 88 sq ft, you'd need a minimum of 22 tiles. Since most ceilings do not lay out to a perfect 2x2 grid, you will most likely have areas at the perimeter of the room where you will need to cut the tiles down from their full 2x2 size. The Avalon has a strong 3-dimensional shape and can not be installed once it's cut down from it's full size. For those areas where you'll need to cut the tile, you'll need to select one of our border tile patterns (the Continental or Fleur-de-lis look wonderful with the Avalon) Here is a link to all of our Signature border tiles: https://www.ceilume.com/products/border/2x2/signature/white-ceiling-tiles/ Give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 with any other questions or to request a free full-sized sample. We look forward to speaking with you.

Can you please share the history of the Avalon design? Time period it was used? Region of the country? Common places it would have been found? Thank you!

Asked by: MiniMidgMom
The Avalon ceiling tile came to Ceilume in our acquisition of Snellings Thermovac located in Blanchard, Louisiana who'd purchased the "Old Jefferson Tile Company" line of reproduction tiles which were created in the early 1970's. The Avalon (formerly the "Covington") was a reproduction of an old stamped tin tile dating back to the mid to late 1800's. The Old Jefferson Tile Company was located in Jefferson, TX which boasted the only inland steamboat port in Texas.  Because of the high steamboat traffic, the ornate decorations of the steamboats found their way into businesses in the area. While the tile patterns were created in Jefferson, the original tin tile designs originated throughout the Eastern and Mid-Western United States and were inspired by the plaster ceilings of Western Europe.   The classic elegance of the Avalon makes it suitable for a wide range of installations; restaurants, bars, theaters, and homes. Here in the 21st century, the Avalon is still being used in those types of installations as well as some that folks in the 1800's hadn't yet dreamed of: Escape rooms and airport lounges. Let us know if you'd like a free full-sized sample of the Avalon to see if it will work in your upcoming project.

How well these adhear to a smooth dry walled ceiling?

Asked by: Jim Dahmer
The Avalon tile works wonderfully as a glue-up ceiling tile. Two things to remember: 1) The Avalon has a strong 3-dimensional profile that projects down from the ceiling by .44". For areas around the perimeter of your room where you may need to cut the tile down from its full 2x2 size, you may need to select a low-profile border tile like the Fleur-de-lis or Continental 2) You"ll need to order 1 bundle of Decorative Strips for every 10 tiles you'll be installing. The Decorative strips cover the joints where the tiles butt together and can be found here: https://www.ceilume.com/accessories/DecorativeStrips/Copper/ Feel free to call us at 800-557-0654 to request free samples of the Avalon and a border tile or to ask any other questions.

I apologize if this question is addressed somewhere but are these paintable? I'm looking to create a distressed look ceiling without the weight of a real tin tile. Thank you!

Asked by: AlexisM
All of our ceiling tiles (and decorative strips and decorative grid tape) can be painted right out of the box or after you install them. A couple of notes: - Painting voids all fire ratings and approvals. - Always paint-match the actual products that you are planning on installing. - Do not use solvent-type thinners and cleaners.

Can you apply over textured

Asked by: Cat 66
Ceilume does not recommend installing glue-up tiles over a textured or "popcorn" finished ceiling. The uneven finish of the textured ceiling will prevent the tiles from sitting flat and will result in an uneven or wavy ceiling. The extra work of removing the textured finish will result in a fantastic looking ceiling that will add beauty to your home for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My brother is a restaurant designer for a major national chain and based on what he saw in our store, they are looking into using your product instead of the tin they have been using. I recommend your product without reservation.
