Product Overview

Classic style coupled with a respectable NRC rating of 50% and an STC of 13, means that an acoustic ceiling doesn't need to equal ugly anymore.

The Stratford NRC.50+™ Acoustical Ceiling Tile System gets you good acoustical performance and great esthetics at a price that's worth shouting about. Classic style and a multitude of color/finish options, coupled with a respectable NRC rating of 50% and an STC of 13, means that an acoustic ceiling doesn't need to equal ugly anymore.

Still not convinced? Read on!

  • NRC Rating of 50%
An NRC of 50% (about the NRC of your average mineral fiber ceiling tile) means that 50% of the sound that hits the ceiling is absorbed and will not bounce back. Interior spaces like home theaters, restaurants, and even medical/therapeutic offices (where privacy is important) would benefit from an increased NRC.
  • Lowest Price-Point
Starting at just $3.94 per square foot (delivered!), prices actually go down as your order volume goes up. We all like the sound of that!
  • Design Options
This classic design comes in five premiere colors, three better than tin finishes, and three faux wood grains. A beautiful ceiling that actually enhances your room's appearance while improving its sound, imagine that!
  • Flexibility
Shipped as a set - tiles in one box (beauty) and sound absorbing insulation in the other (the beast) - the Stratford NRC.50+™ 24" x 24" acoustical ceiling tile system is perfect for 1" standard T-bar grid systems and will not stain, absorb moisture, harbor mold or mildew, or create dust. Because it's two separate components (rather than a composite of dissimilar materials that are glued together) each piece can be removed separately, cleaned separately, and even recycled separately. No other acoustical ceiling system gives you that flexibility.
  • Dual Functionality
Lightweight, flexible, simple to install, easy to trim with household scissors (or aviation snips), and Class A fire rated, the Stratford NRC.50+™ Acoustical Ceiling Panel System gives you one more benefit that won't just save your ears, it will save on your utility bills. By adding an R-Value of 6 to your drop ceiling, NRC.50+™ will make your space warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and quieter all year long.

Can these be nailed up?

Asked by: Ellen
Ceilume's Stratford NRC 50+ ceiling tiles can only be installed in a 1" or 15/16" suspended ceiling grid. Ceilume doesn't haven any tiles that can be nailed to a ceiling but we do have 18 different tile styles that can be glued to a ceiling. You can view them by clicking this link: https://www.ceilume.com/products/glue-up/2x2/white-ceiling-tiles/ Please give Ceilume a call at 800-557-0654 if you'd like to see a free full-sized sample. We're here Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 4:30 pm PST.

Is the Sonigard insulation attached to the tile or just an extra piece to put above the thin plastic tile?

Asked by: Tommy
The Soniguard is made to sit on top of Ceilume ceiling tiles for additional acoustic and thermal insulation. It is not attached for ease of installation and removal.

Is the Stratford NRC.50+ permitted for installation above a coffee shop food-prep area? I note the NRC.50+ is non-perforated.

Asked by: Jacqui
All Ceilume ceiling tiles meet USDA and FDA requirements for use in food service and food prep areas. The Stratford NRC .50+ is a non-perforated tile which makes them easy to clean while still providing excellent noise reduction.

Can I install led canless recessed lights in these?

Asked by: Lianne
Per the International Building Code, all lights, speakers and other devices must be supported by the ceiling grid or the structure above. For installation in a Ceilume ceiling tile, you will need to use a bracket designed to carry the weight of the LED light on the ceiling grid.

Can you glue these to popcorn ceiling?

Asked by: Amy
Ceilume's Stratford NRC 50+ is a 2 piece system consisting of a Stratford ceiling tile and a piece of Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation. It can only be installed in a standard 1" or 15/16" ceiling grid. While Ceilume does make many Glue-Up ceiling tiles, none of them can be installed directly to popcorn ceilings. The random texture of the popcorn finish prevents the tiles from sitting flat against the ceiling and make the joints uneven.

Are the white tiles paintable? If so are there any recommendations on type of paint, method, etc?

Asked by: marsman
Yes, you can paint Ceilume ceiling tiles with an interior grade latex paint. Ask your local paint pros to for a latex paint that works well with vinyl.

How visible are the perforations in this tile? The perforations in the NRC.85+ are obvious from the online photos, but the NRC.50+ looks just like the regular Stratford tile in the photos. Can you send a close-up photo of one of these tiles to my email?

Asked by: Brian89
The Stratforde NRC .85+ Stratford and the Stratford NRC.50+ tiles are actually a combination of a Stratford and a 2x2 Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation. The difference between the two is that Stratford NRC .85+ has perforations but the Stratford NRC .50+ does not. You can see the perforations of the Stratford NRC .85+ but they don't really stand out due to the Soniguard backpanel behind them. At this time we don't have any installed shots of the Stratford NRC .85+ tile, but if you're interested we'd be happy to send out a free full-sized sample so you can check it out in person. Just give us a call at 800-557-0654

  • QUESTIONS, PRODUCT
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing The tiles are very flimsy plastic and it is obvious that is the case when up close. My installation is very low so the tiles are less than 2 feet from my eyes when I am standing. Touching them is even worse--then you really notice how flimsy they are. The white tiles do not match the standard white grid system either (I used Armstrong) which seems like it must have been done on purpose so you have to buy their plastic grid covers--maybe the off-white color Ceilume sells matches but that was not apparent to me. I was so desperate to avoid the fiberboard products that are typical of drop ceilings that I let Ceilume's marketing get the best of me. The acoustic baffling pad seems pretty nice though. It fits very snug in the grid system. I plan to keep those and send the tiles back. Getting Ceilume to respond to a return request is very slow. Days go by without hearing from customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great - easy to work with This tile looks great - much nicer than standard ceiling tiles. I used a general contractor who had never seen this tile - they were also impressed with its ease of install and how nice it looked. Buyers should make sure to plan on using "ceiling grid mounts" for accessories like speakers etc. that are to be installed in the ceiling as these tiles will not support any weight. Ceilume was a great vendor to work with: very helpful support and fast shipping.
