Can this insulation touch heat/AC vent and duct work? AC isn't the issue, but is it safe to have this product on ducts that get warm/hot?

Asked by: Dave
Ceilume's ceiling tiles carry the following note about temperature: Warning: Not recommended for installation where ceiling temperatures exceed 120°F. The Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation will be unaffected by contact with HVAC ducting and vents within normal operating temperatures.

1. What is the weight of a 2 ft. x 2 ft. Soniguard insulation panel? 2. Is Soniguard compatible with other brands of ceiling tiles, so long as it's the same size grid?

Asked by: Dave
Each piece of Soniguard 2x2 Drop Ceiling Insulation weighs 12.8 ounces. Soniguard can be used will safely fit on top of any 2' x 2' ceiling tile. Please keep in mind that some ceiling tiles might not be strong enough to support even the Soniguard without sagging (Styrofoam tiles and some very thin vinyl tiles)

“Weight”. How does the weight of an Stratford 2x4 panel with Soniguard insulation compare to the weight of an old Armstrong 2x4 panel?

Asked by: Rob
Each Ceilume Stratford 2'x4' ceiling panel weighs 12.8 oz and each piece of Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation weighs 12.8 oz (you'll need 2 pieces of 2'x2' Soniguard for every 2'x4' Stratford panel that you install). Total weight for a 2'x4' Stratford ceiling panel plus 2 pieces of Soniguard would be 38.4 oz (2.4 lbs). The weight of Armstrong mineral fiber ceiling panels varies depending on thickness and product model and can be anywere from 6.4 lbs to 8.8 lbs per 2x4 panel.

can i use Soniguard insulation with the coffered Madison tile?

Asked by: Bill
Yes, you can install Soniguard on top of the coffered Madison (and Westminster) tiles. You will need to make sure the Soniguard is centered on the Madison to insure proper coverage across the entire ceiling.

How your product reduce the noise from neighbors living above us?

Asked by: Galla
The 2 most common ratings for ceiling insulation are Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) and Sound Transmission Class (STC). NRC typically applies to how a material effects the sound within a room and STC applies to sound travelling from 1 room to another (like sound from your noisy neighbors). Ceilumes Feather-Light ceiling tiles installed by themselves have an NRC of .25 and an STC of 10. Adding Soniguard Drop Ceiling Insulation on top of a Feather-Light tile brings the NRC to .50 and the STC to 13. If the neighbors are very noisy, adding a layer of insulation between the floor joists above the ceiling would be another good step.

Will this help block out nosiy neighbors from upstairs

Asked by: Noise

Ceilumes Feather-Light ceiling tiles installed without additional insulation have an NRC of .25 and an STC of 10. Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful but flimsy I installed this a couple months ago in my new bathroom and love the look. However it is very flimsy. After putting the insulation on top of it I noticed bulges in the tile. Just hoping it hold and tiles don't fall out

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Im happy with the soniguard tikes but 1 thing... The square needs to be a little smaller so it can fit correctly into the vinyl tile. Its a little big so you either have to cut every square (and they are hard to cut) or just lay them on top, overlapping each other - so we chose the latter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fix for my office I added the tiles to the ceiling in my office and it provided sound deadening as well as reduction of overall echo within my space. This is a clean product and takes minimal time and effort to install.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Insulation sound barrier I purchased this product to eliminate or dramatically reduce the sound transfer from one office to the next. It is being reported that there is little to no difference now that they have been installed. The only locations that the product was not installed is over 2-2x4 lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A one product. After purchasing Ceilume tiles along with the insulation panel we had a relatively easy installation! There were a few learning curves such as how to install can lights and speakers. But found ways to incorporate this modification. Trimming an cutting tiles was easily accomplished with a very fine finished look. Thanks.
